"Outeniqua'' means ''Man with an abundance of honey'' and, while it is uncertain as to how the mountain range which broods over the course (Fancourt's ''second'' facility) acquired this name, a round of golf on the Iayout so named is indeed the sweetest of treats. 

Fancourt is widely regarded as being South Africa's finest golf resort and no expense has been spared by owners Hasso and Sabine Plattner to ensure that the visiting golfer enjoys his or her overall experience. Although the Montagu layout is thought of as having the older and better pedigree, both courses as we know them now are composite designs, the current routings having grown out of the expanded possibilities resulting from the building of a third and then a fourth nine. 

They thus share many characteristics: both are modern parkland courses, designed with the coastal winds in mind, both are impressively sculptured and finished with rare attention to detail, the products of art as much as nature.
